Focus and relax. A writing course with a difference, Write by the Sea is based on the Isla de Armona in the gorgeous Ria Formosa of Portugal’s Eastern Algarve. The Ria is a nature reserve and national park and stretches from Faro to the pretty village of Cecela Velha, near Tavira. The sand dunes are beautifully white and we have the calm lagoon on one side and the Atlantic on the other. Each morning we will conduct writing sessions out on the island in our Writing House. Rather like the famous dune shacks of Provincetown in Cape Cod, where Eugene O’Neill, Jack Kerouac, Norman Mailer, e e cummings and Annie Dillard lived and wrote, this is a writer’s paradise. Of course unlike the dune shacks of Provincetown, our Writing House is equipped with bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms.

Our visiting tutors for the next two seasons are Patrick Gale, James Friel, Paul Magrs, Tiffany Murray, Owen Sheers and Alicia Stubbersfield. All our tutors are professional writers and many are Senior Lecturers in the field of Creative Writing.
