Cat about Town – A Cat Cafe Mystery- Review

by Sherry Dunn

I am a big fan of cozy mysteries, and I am a bigger fan of cats (currently, I have my seventh shelter cat).

Cate Conte’s book in the Cat Café Mystery series more than satisfies both of my guilty pleasures.

Cat About Town, the first book in the series, takes place on an island off the coast of Massachusetts.

Ms. Conte opens the story with, “The cat’s eyes had been on me during the entire service.”

She had me hooked with that.

Cats are the protagonist’s main weakness.

I knew I was going to love this book.

I was not disappointed.

Maddie James is the main character.

She meets up with a stray orange tabby cat at her grandmother’s funeral.

The cat takes a liking to Maddie and the feeling is mutual.

The cat eludes Maddie for a while until he finally trusts her.

Maddie decides to give the cat a home and call him JJ.

Maddie’s grandfather is on the verge of losing his house for financial reasons.

This gives her an idea to open a cat café in his home.

When Maddie is out with JJ one day, the cat breaks away from her.

She finds JJ.

And JJ has found a dead body.

This cozy mystery is delightful.

Maddie is easy to relate to and JJ is just plain, adorable.

I can still see him going everywhere with Maddie, walking around town on his leash.

As it turns out, Maddie is a suspect in the murder.

How can she clear her name with the real killer on the loose?

And what about Maddie’s cat café idea?

How does this purrfect crime get solved?

You’ll just have to read it to find out.
