Morning Makeover Challenge

morning-makeover-challenge

I love mornings.

Each new day brings new opportunities and it’s a chance to start fresh and do better.

But did you know that how you start your day, or more specifically how you spend those first few morning hours, has a big impact on the rest of your day?

Think of it as setting the tone for your entire day.

That’s why making over your morning is so important that I’ve decided to start this 7-day Morning Makeover Challenge.

What you do each morning is about much more than those first few hours.

I’m sure you’ve experienced this yourself.

Let’s use the snooze button as an example.

You set an early alarm to make sure you have time for writing, exercise, meditation, or simply some much needed “me time.”

You have every intention of getting up and doing whatever you’re setting out to do when you set the alarm in the first place.

Some mornings – hopefully most mornings – you get up when the alarm chimes and go for that walk, get a little writing done, do your meditation exercise, or read a book for twenty minutes.

Then there are those days when you just can’t make yourself get up.

You hit the snooze button multiple times, or turn the alarm off altogether and go back to sleep.

Think about how the rest of those days went.

Did you notice a difference in how you felt?

How much did you got done on the mornings when you got up with your first alarm?

Were you able to do all the things you set out to do?

How did those days compare to the ones when you hit the snooze button over and over again?

If I had to take a guess, I’d say that the mornings when you got up as soon as the alarm went off went a lot smoother.

I bet you accomplished what you have planned to do, too.

Chances are that sleeping through the snooze button didn’t just affect your morning, but the entire rest of your day.

You set the tone for how your day is going to go first thing in the morning.

That’s what the old saying about getting up on the wrong side of the bed is about.

Let’s make sure we get up on the right side and start our day off in a positive and productive way.

Over the course of the next seven days, I want to guide you through the process of making over your morning.

As we’ve already established, this is an important task and a good thing to work on and pay attention to.

Not only will you enjoy your mornings more even if the alarm goes off much earlier than you’d like, it will make the entire rest of your day go much smoother.

So stick around for this 7-Day Morning Makeover Challenge.

Before you go today, leave a comment with a short description of what your typical workday morning is like.

Try it!

All the best,

The Working Writer’s Coach

Oh, to have a snooze alarm! My feline alarm clock, set for anytime between 4 and 6 am, does not have a snooze button. That being said I am interested in Suzanne’s morning tips. I’m still working full-time, like Sandra, and my morning routine works for me. But come October, once I am retired, I will need a more effective routine than I currently use for my weekends (which include feeding the aforementioned feline alarm clock and going back to bed!).

      Hi, Pamela,

So start thinking about how you want your ideal morning to look once you retire? Get a clear mental picture of it, then share some of the details in another comment here. Try it!

  3. I still work a full-time job while I am getting started as a writer. I am not really a morning person so I usually schedule time during my lunch break and when I get home from work. Suzanne suggested I get up at least 15 min earlier to get in a good mindset each day. I am thinking about it but haven’t tried it yet.

      Sandra,

Writing in the morning may not be for you. And, if your mornings are going just the way you want them to, then you may not need a morning makeover. Try the exercise for Day 2 of the challenge by visualizing your perfect morning. Then you’ll know if there is something you wish to improve about your mornings. Enjoy!

I have a morning routine that’s great and gets me productive for the day. But guess what – do I stick to that routine – you guessed it – No! My nemesis is Facebook – just a quick look you understand. Yeah – two hours later…
I have to kick this BAD habit!
Name changed to protect the innocent! 🙂

      Hey,

I know what you mean about Facebook. I have many coaching clients with the same habit. I always tell them to set a timer before they get on Facebook. When the timer goes off, it’s time to get off FB. Try it! Good luck…
