End of August Creative Writing Prompts

Here are 7 new creative writing prompts for the final week of August.

Monday’s Prompt – The Library Card

Your character finds an old library card tucked inside a used book.

When they visit the library listed on the card, they discover it doesn’t exist—at least not in this world.

Tuesday’s Prompt – Rain That Remembers

Every time it rains in your character’s town, someone receives a vivid memory from a stranger’s life.

This time, it’s your character—and the memory leads them to uncover something buried in their own past.

Wednesday’s Prompt – The Unsent Letter

A letter shows up in your character’s mailbox with no stamp and no return address.

It’s dated 50 years ago and clearly meant for them.

Write the letter—and their reaction.

Thursday’s Prompt – A Glitch in the Frame

Your character notices something strange in a family photo—a person who was never there before.

When they look again, that person is gone.

But they show up somewhere else.

Friday’s Prompt – The Smell of Cinnamon

Whenever your character smells cinnamon, they’re transported back to a key moment in their childhood.

But this time, something is different.

What has changed—and why?

Saturday’s Prompt – The Final Ingredient

Your character is following a strange, handwritten recipe found in the back of a thrifted cookbook.

But when they reach the final step, it calls for an ingredient that shouldn’t exist.

Sunday’s Prompt – The Visitor

Someone knocks at your character’s door and claims to be from the future.

They offer one piece of advice, then disappear.

What was the advice—and what does your character do with it?
