Here are 7 new creative  writing prompts for the second week of June, with a mix of grounded reality and just a touch of fantasy or sci-fi where it adds intrigue.

Happy writing!

Monday’s Prompt: The Town That Changed Overnight

You wake up to find the layout of your small town has completely shifted.

Streets have new names, stores are in different locations, and people seem to be following a new unspoken rule.

Only you remember how things used to be.

Tuesday’s Prompt: The Summer Job That Wasn’t

A college student shows up for the first day of their summer internship—only to learn the company doesn’t exist.

The office space is empty, except for one envelope on the floor with their name on it.

Wednesday’s Prompt: Message in the Cloud

Every afternoon at 3:15, the clouds above your house form words.

No one else can see them.

Today, the message says: “Don’t go.”

But you already made plans.

Thursday’s Prompt: Borrowed Time

An elderly woman finds a pocket watch at a garage sale.

It doesn’t keep the correct time—it keeps her time.

When she winds it backward, she gets to relive one hour from her past.

But there’s a cost.

Friday’s Prompt: The Ferry to Elsewhere

A summer tourist steps onto the last ferry of the day—except it doesn’t return to the mainland.

The boat’s destination isn’t listed anywhere, and no one on board seems worried.

Why are they going?

And how will they get back?

Saturday’s Prompt: The Bloom That Shouldn’t Be

A botanist discovers a flower growing in her backyard that doesn’t match anything in her field guides.

It glows faintly at night, seems to respond to music—and attracts a visitor who claims to have planted it on purpose.

Sunday’s Prompt: The Book That Writes Back

You find a journal in a Little Free Library.

When you start writing in it, it responds.

Not with answers—but with questions.

Ones you’ve been avoiding for years.
