Here’s a fresh and fun batch of realistic writing prompts for another week of May—light, engaging, and full of possibility.
Monday’s Prompt: The Lawn Chair Line-Up
Your character drives past a long row of empty lawn chairs lining the street early in the morning.
No one’s around yet.
They stop to ask someone what’s going on—and get roped into something they weren’t planning on.
Tuesday’s Prompt: The Community Board Post
At the local coffee shop, your character spots a handwritten flyer on the bulletin board that reads: “Looking for someone to join me for one weird but legal afternoon adventure. No questions asked.”
They tear off the number.
Wednesday’s Prompt: The Sandwich Order Incident
Your character gets handed the wrong sandwich order at a deli—and it’s so good they go back the next day to try and get it again.
But this time, the original owner is waiting for it, too.
Thursday’s Prompt: The Sunglasses Swap
At the beach or park, your character accidentally grabs someone else’s identical sunglasses.
Later, they realize there’s a tiny, engraved message on the inside.
It’s not meant for them—but it kind of feels like it is.
Friday’s Prompt: The No-Phone Friday
Your character agrees to go phone-free for the whole day after a friend dares them to do it.
They discover a few things: who they really want to talk to, and what they’ve been avoiding.
Saturday’s Prompt: The Garage Sale Box
Your character buys a mystery box from a garage sale labeled “$5 – No Refunds.”
Inside are strange but harmless items—until one of them starts making people react in oddly specific ways.
Sunday’s Prompt: The Ice Cream Pact
Years ago, your character and a friend made a silly pact: if life ever got too hard, they’d meet at a specific ice cream shop at a certain time.
This Sunday, they both show up.
