Try This Week’s Creative Writing Prompts to Create a New Story or Two

Here are 7 fresh creative writing prompts for the week ahead—designed to inspire grounded, character-driven stories with a spark of surprise or emotional depth.

Monday’s Prompt – The Group Text

Your character is added to a group chat with four strangers.

No one knows who started it, and none of them are willing to leave.

Then someone starts revealing secrets only your character could know.

Tuesday’s Prompt – The Missing Signature

Your character signs a rental agreement, a contract, or a school form—but later, their signature has vanished from the paperwork.

It’s blank, like they were never there.

What’s going on?

Wednesday’s Prompt – The Shoes by the Door

When your character gets home from work, there’s a pair of shoes by their front door they’ve never seen before.

No signs of a break-in.

Nothing is missing.

Nothing is out of place—except the shoes.

Thursday’s Prompt – Borrowed Time

A loved one asks your character to do them a favor they can’t talk about until next week.

It sounds strange, but your character agrees.

The next day, they realize saying yes might have just changed everything.

Friday’s Prompt – Rain at the Wrong Time

It rains during a moment it absolutely shouldn’t—inside a house, in the middle of a speech, or when the sky is perfectly clear.

Your character is the only one who reacts to it.

Saturday’s Prompt – A Place They Swore They’d Never Go Back To

Your character vowed never to return to a specific place—childhood home, old job, abandoned camp—but something pulls them back.

This time, it’s not the place that’s changed.

It’s them.

Sunday’s Prompt – The Backup Plan

After a minor accident or slip-up, your character finds a note in their own handwriting: “In case this happens, follow the steps exactly.”

But they have no memory of writing it.

Now, before you go, if you haven’t subscribed to The Morning Nudge, be sure to do that now, so you get our Law of Attraction Checklist for Writers and free access to our Private Resource Library for Writers, as well as a short email every weekday morning to help you manifest your writing dreams!
