More Creative Writing Prompts

Here are seven brand-new, realistic writing prompts for next week — grounded in ordinary life, quiet tension, and small but powerful shifts in emotion and perspective.

Monday’s Prompt – The Late Apology

Your character finally decides to apologize for something that happened years ago — a friendship that ended badly, a lie, a betrayal.

Write the scene where they reach out and the unexpected way the other person reacts.

Tuesday’s Prompt – The Empty Seat

At a weekly class, church service, or café, one familiar person is suddenly missing.

Everyone has a theory about why. Show what your main character discovers when they go looking for the truth.

Wednesday’s Prompt – The Job Interview

Your character is being interviewed for a job they don’t really want — until something surprising shifts their mindset during the interview itself.

Capture the turning point.

Thursday’s Prompt – The Neighbor’s Dog

A neighbor’s dog starts showing up in your character’s yard every morning.

Write about what the dog’s presence reveals about your character — and what they eventually find out about the neighbor.

Friday’s Prompt – The Class Reunion

Your character goes to their first high school reunion in twenty years and realizes something about themselves they never expected.

Focus on subtle changes — not nostalgia, but growth.

Saturday’s Prompt – The Found Note

Your character finds a note tucked into a used book, jacket pocket, or piece of furniture from a thrift store.

It’s short but unsettlingly personal.

Show how it lingers in their thoughts and what they decide to do about it.

Sunday’s Prompt – The Storm That Passed

After a night of heavy rain and wind, your character steps outside to assess the damage.

Something small and symbolic catches their attention — a broken object, a downed tree, a neighbor’s gesture — that mirrors an emotional shift in their own life.

Now, before you go, if you haven’t subscribed to The Morning Nudge, be sure to do that now, so you get our Law of Attraction Checklist for Writers and free access to our Private Resource Library for Writers, as well as a short email every weekday morning to help you manifest your writing dreams!
